Yes, there are plans to support "compact()" soon. I'm a bit busy working
in the Python 2.6 release and I have broken my left wrist a couple of
weeks ago, but I intent to support "compact()" in a month or two.

"compact()" in BDB 4.6 is very buggy. My intent is to support
"compact()" only in BDB 4.7 and higher.
